Living life to the fullest both on and off the water

Whether she’s on the water in a dragon boat or waka, or at work with the Gallagher Animal Management Tech Support team, Elaine Brown loves working together towards a common goal.
With a Bachelor of Information Systems from Manukau Institute of Technology, she began her tech support career at The Radio Network (NZME) in Auckland in an IT Tech Support role.
After moving to Hamilton and taking some time off to be home with her children, she rejoined the workforce in a tech support role at Halo Systems, where she gained valuable farming knowledge. In January 2022, Elaine joined Gallagher’s Tech Support team and says she loves the supportive team environment.
“Life is way too short not to enjoy what you’re doing. The main reason I enjoy coming to work at Gallagher is the people I get to work with and the customers we get to help. We have such a unique and wonderful group of personalities”, says Elaine.
She compares her Tech Support role at Gallagher to paddling in her Waikato Treasure Chests Dragon Boat team.
“Dragon boating is all about teamwork. We work in groups, each with a different role, but at the end of the day, we’re all in the same boat. Our aim is to work in unison and harness our power as a team to propel the boat forward as smoothly as possible,” says Elaine.
“Working at Gallagher is much the same for me. Tech Support is all about teamwork and supporting each other towards the end goal of helping our farmer customers get the most out of their Gallagher solutions.”
When she’s not at work or on the lake, you can find Elaine on her lifestyle block on the outskirts of Hamilton where she lives with her husband and two children, Alexander (9) and Georgia (6).
“I didn’t grow up on a farm but I’m definitely a bit of a ‘wanna be’ farmer in my Red Band gumboots with my 14 chickens,” laughs Elaine.
“I love that every day in tech support is different. And it can be a bit of a challenge because you never quite know what you’re going to get! Today, I was helping a customer sort some of their files in the cloud system, but other days it can be an issue with equipment they need help navigating. You need to be able to quickly identify the problem they’re experiencing and figure out how to help. If I can’t resolve the problem, then I try to find a short-term work around for them until I am able to find a solution,” says Elaine.
Elaine works on the basis that there is always a solution to a problem and if she doesn’t have the answers, someone else in her team will.
“That’s the great thing about working at Gallagher. There are so many talented and experienced people to call on and everyone is ready and willing to help.”
