Martin Weir, Territory Manager

As Gallagher’s Territory Manager for Taranaki, Martin has a unique affinity with the company. It’s the historical connection with family roots. Martin’s lineage reaches back 125 years of Weirs farming the family land. He’s immensely proud of his hertitage, and appreciates that Gallagher has a similar story.

“I love the fact that Gallagher is family owned. From my Taranaki upbringing, I know that an unbroken line stands for something. It speaks of the solidity behind the family name. The fact that Gallagher has run a successful family business for 80 years is a big reason I joined the team.”

Before Gallagher, Martin worked in sales for Farmlands and NZ FarmSource. For some, sales is about shifting products. For Martin, products are a way to solve problems - something he enjoys doing with Gallagher.

“My job is giving farmers the tools and products that will make their lives easier and their businesses more profitable and productive. Gallagher’s products are perfectly designed for that. Like the weigh scales and EID readers. In minutes, farmers can weigh animals, record relevant stats, make informed decisions and send information off to NAIT from their phones. Quick and easy.”

Being bred in the Taranaki, Martin knows that some farmers are reluctant to try new technologies. They prefer to trust their instincts.

“We’re quite traditional down here, and there’s lot to love about that. Old school and new school can mesh together easily, and I think that’s important when it comes to tackling challenges, such as regional council compliance.

“When I’m talking to farmers about Gallagher products, I always have an eye on what’s coming down the pipeline in terms of new regulations. So I’ll offer them solutions that will solve today’s problems, but will also help them manage future issues. That’s how I think. My parents taught me to do the right thing by farmers, and I don’t know any other way.”

When he’s not solving problems, Martin spends most of his time with his young family. He and his wife Shelley have recently welcomed their firstborn son Oliver into the world, so it’s all hands on deck at home. When time allows, you’ll find Martin on a fishing boat with his dad and father-in-law.
