Integrating an EID reader into the multi-award-winning Gallagher TW weigh scales has completely automated the tag reading and weighing process.

The new TWR-5 scale combines two pieces of hardware into one, enabling the task of tag reading and weighing, to now be done by one person. “Traditionally farmers would have had a reader to read EID tags, connected to their weigh scales. With the TWR-5, we have taken the electronics of the reader and combined them into the body of the scale. We are now able to provide an all-in-one solution with the addition of an external antenna, says Gallagher Product Manager Brian Rose.

Patented smart electronics ensure the TWR-5 is highly energy efficient, maximising battery life so the internal reader and weigh scale can run over a full eight hour day without requiring recharge.

The TW weigh scale range, launched in 2017, set a new standard for ease of use, with its touch screen and intuitive interface modeled closely off a piece of equipment farmers now take for granted, their smartphone. The TWR 5 further extends data and trait recording capability. It gives the ability to record up to 9 traits per session, which could include breed, life data, and treatments.

Simple drafting settings then allow animals to be drafted based on recorded data, weight, animal number or weight gain “The TW range were designed firmly with farmer’s needs in mind. From initial set up to data access after weighing, the focus has been on simplicity of use for easy and accurate data recording,” says Brian.

The TW series are available in three models, with the base model TW-1 delivering an EID compatible, intuitive weighing and data management system that allows you to capture, view and manage your animal's weight data. The TW-3 provides a step-up enabling users to select and record more information about their animals, over and above weight. Also offering the ability to record up to three traits against each animal in a session.

The new scales are to be showcased at this year’s Mystery Creek Fieldays giving farmers a first-hand look at the leading-edge system.
