Waikato born and bred, Taniya Kemara has always had an affinity for rural living. Her family home was a farmhouse on the outskirts of Hamilton, where she often helped round up the cows and catch the odd sheep that escaped through the wire.
“I’ve always felt connected to farming. When your family is on the land, you can’t help but end up down the back of beyond. I love that life.”
That connection brought Taniya to Gallagher. Her role with Gallagher Animal Management’s customer service team means there’s often troubleshooting involved.
“We get lots of calls from farmers needing help. Maybe an energiser’s not working, or power isn’t getting through to the posts. I get it. They just want things fixed, and my job is to give them solutions, or direct them to people who can help. I love that. Helping people and following through is what I do best.”
When she’s not solving the world’s fencing problems, Taniya provides back-up to Gallagher’s repairs team. In a short time, she’s developed a reputation as a true team player
When Taniya has a spare moment, she doesn’t hesitate to support another Gallagher department. “I know it’s a cliché, but I really enjoy helping. If I can see another department needing a hand, I’ll get stuck in.”
As important as work is to Taniya, it isn’t everything. Family is. And sport. “I love family time; it’s my number one priority. But sport is a close second! Thankfully, I don’t have to choose between them. My sons have played league, rugby and everything else since they were young, and my partner and I love watching Sky Sport. It’s an easy win-win.”
