Territory Manager - Taranaki/Whanganui/Rangitikei
Mark joined the Gallagher team in October 2017 taking over from long-time Territory Manager Graeme Sutherland who has retired. Mark is excited about the prospects the new position with New Zealand’s leading agri-tech company brings.
While new to the agricultural sector, Mark is more than comfortable helping customers come to grips with new technology and explaining the nuts and bolts of specific equipment’s design, build and purpose.
Mark has spent the past 12 years working for leading equipment supplier NZ Safety Blackwoods, based in New Plymouth and most recently as a specialist in its hose and fittings division.
“Our clients included many of the main energy companies working here in Taranaki, with some very specific requirements around equipment type and demands, so it’s been a demanding position, but also had a very strong customer focus, something I know Gallagher also like managers to have with their staff at both a retail and a farm level,” says Mark.
After 12 years in the heavy engineering sector Mark is relishing the opportunity to explore the wide product range Gallagher has to offer the farming sector, and to be part of a company where he is selling products designed and developed right here in New Zealand.
“That is a pretty rare thing these days, and it is quite a privilege to have that opportunity in this role. I also enjoy the role of technical selling, introducing a client to a new product that can help lift their productivity and make things simpler at the same time.”
For Mark Taranaki has proven something of a magnet through his life, having been bought up there, spending time working in Auckland and returning to take up the NZ Safety Blackwoods role in 2005.
In his time at Blackwoods he has enjoyed some contact with the region’s farmers, providing valves and fittings for farm dairies, and hydraulic hose connections for tractors and machinery.
Some will also do a double take when they see him in his Gallagher’s role.
“My brother Carl was a Product Manager for Gallagher’s Energizers division a few years ago now.”
Mark is married with two children aged 10 and 12, and spends his spare time hunting down the best waves to surf on the prolific Taranaki coast, and coaching 10-15 year olds as a junior soccer coach.
