Growing up in Brisbane with no exposure to agriculture, Max Dwyer went on to work in ag-tech sales and help manage a Tasmanian tomato operation, before landing his role at Gallagher as Territory Manager for Inland Southern Queensland.
“Noting the contrast between rural services and urban services helped me head down the ag path. It’s hard to understand agriculture in books though – especially agribusiness, because it’s about people.”
To get some dirt under his nails, Max jackarooed on “Miranda Downs” in the Gulf of Carpentaria for part of a season. Living remotely in a stock camp, the amateur bush poet was “was terrible at jackarooing, but loved every minute of it”.
Max also enjoyed his subsequent roles – particularly his exposure to Gallagher when working with an online ag-tech retailer.
“The Gallagher support network is fantastic – customer service representatives, technical assistance and other backup. To me, GM Malcolm Linn is the best thing since sliced bread.
“There are procedures definitely, but nobody ever says ‘no, that’s not my job’. The team is fluid and adaptive. It all gets me up in the morning”.
