What can I use electric fencing for?
Electric fencing can be used in many different applications: new, purpose built fences for containment or exclusion of large animals; retrofitting an old fence to extend its life or to protect a new conventional fence; feral animal exclusion and temporary fencing for pasture management and animal control.
How does electric fencing work?
A short, safe and memorable shock creates a psychological - as well as a physical - barrier. Every electric fence system is made up of a power source and a fencing system. Selection of these systems depends on farm size, fencing usage and animal type.
Permanent Fencing
Permanent high tensile wire systems create long life, permanent electric fences. They are easy to install and operate and provide highly effective animal control that lasts a lifetime.
Permanent fences use highly conductive, corrosion resistant fence wire together with wood, steel, fibreglass or Gallagher Insulated Line Posts, coupled with components to keep fences looking good and working effectively for a lifetime.
Constructing permanent electric fences involves several steps:
1. Installing end & corner posts
2. Attaching strain insulators to end posts
3. Installing guide wires and line posts
4. Tensioning the wires
5. Completing the electrical connections
6. Installing gates and gateways

Retrofit Fencing
Retrofit electric fencing is an economical and easy-to-install option if you have an existing or new conventional, non-electric fence that needs to be protected.
Brackets are fitted to the existing fence with an electrified wire that discourages animals from rubbing against the fence, thereby extending its life. A variety of offset brackets are available to attach to wood post or steel fences, or to mount directly onto the wires of an existing non-electric fence.

Portable Fencing
Portable electric fences are easy to transport, assemble and take down, allowing flexible fencing for short-term animal control or rotational grazing. Tapes, Wires and Braids are used on portable electric fences as they are light, highly visible and easy to wind.
A temporary or portable electric fence can be powered by any Gallagher Solar or Battery Energizer or can be simply connected to a permanent electric fence.
