How Norton N-Force makes yards safer
Friday, 23 May, 2025

The forcing area is often the riskiest place for animals and operators. Livestock are under stress as they’re being moved into a yard. They can try to escape or push back on being directed through a gate, which in turn creates more risk for their handlers.
Safety for people and livestock is of upmost importance in the way we go about Animal Handling design. Continuous improvement in our product innovation process helps address cattle handling risks, The N-Force system is a good example.
The N-Force system addresses these cattle handling risks with a one-way gate designed to move cattle through your yard safer.
Reducing unpredictability in your livestock makes moving them through a yard safer, reducing stress on both animals and handlers.
How N-Force works helps with yard flow
N-Force works like a giant ratcheting system on the gate in your race. The heavy-duty gate latch locks at every 400mm, reducing the pushback from animals being sent through the race.
The N-Force one way gate makes animal movement more predictable, which in turn lowers the risk of injury to handlers.
N-Force can be configured to swing clockwise or anti-clockwise depending on the needs of your yard.
N-Force optimises cattle flow for better efficiency
Cattle yards function best when movement is natural and controlled. The N-Force system improves flow through the race entry point, the most critical section of your yard. N-Force helps cattle transition smoothly into the race by reducing hesitation and distractions.
The Race Entry Set includes a straight and a curved sheeted panel. The straight side gives livestock a sense of direction and the curved side increases visibility inside the race. The open space means all animals can see where to go if more than one animal is in the race at a time.
The sheeting prevents cattle from seeing movement outside the race. Animals can be distracted by what’s going on outside the race or try to escape if they can see beyond where they’re supposed to go in the yard.
The N-Force gate sits on a concrete pad for added stability when dealing with livestock. The added strength helps resist pushback from livestock to keep animal flow in the right direction.
A yard with smooth stock flow is a safe yard. Not only is the yard safer for cattle, but safer for operators working the yard.
Creating safer yards for both people and livestock
Workplace safety is a top priority for all farmers. N-Force gates and races make animal movement more predictable, making flow easier and safer for everyone.
Our custom designed yards and races can also be sheeted to reduce visibility so the only way animals can see forward is through the race itself.
Sheeted racing and N-Force gates are just some of the ways you can make your yard safer for both you and your animals.
