Animal Performance Plus Integration reaps benefits for sixth-generation producer

A new integration with Animal Performance Plus allows farmers to drilldown and interpret their animal data using Australian-owned livestock analysis software company Black Box Co.

Black Box’s software is cloud-based and designed for cattle producers to easily and intuitively access cattle data insights including price forecasting and predictions based on existing supply chain data. Working with Gallagher, the integration allows for end-to-end data analysis for farmers looking to increase profitability and improve operations on-farm.

So how does the integration work? Gallagher’s Animal Performance Plus collects data easily from the cloud, from a farmers’ TWR Weigh Scale or HR Handheld reader. From here, the information is collated for the user to view, and sent to Black Box, where the data is used to create predictions and allow the farmers to make data-backed decisions.

Sixth-generation producer Lindsay Brown is Station Manager at Bogunda Pastoral, south of Prairie, North Queensland, and uses Gallagher to collect crush-side data quickly and easily for his 1,600 predominantly Droughtmaster and Limousin-infused breeding stock.

Having initially used the Gallagher system to collect cattle data, Lindsay spent quite a bit of time researching different ways to analyse the information, before settling on using Black Box.

“Nothing really came close to the Black Box system, which we continue to use to this day to get the best value out of the data we’ve been collecting,” Lindsay said.

“The Gallagher hardware is great for collecting data and works hand-in-hand with Black Box.”

By adopting a system that is more accessible for the wider team, Lindsay said he avoids double handling data, and can upload animal data as soon as it’s collected, rather than waiting until after a full round of mustering.

“Now Gallagher has done the integration with Black Box, it’s become very simple to hit the sync on the TWR-5,” he said.

“That will automatically upload the data to the Black Box cloud, and then within 10 minutes, you’re viewing that mob you’ve just processed in the yards and analysing the data on the screen.”

To launch the integration, Gallagher was present at the Black Box site at premier event Beef Week in early May. Black Box was hosting education sessions through the week on how to use the integrated software, and onboarding new customers in-person.
