Mega anchor being installed

Welcome to the first chapter in the Gallagher series on changing animal behaviour with a high-performance electric fence. In this series, you’ll learn how to build a high performing fence that contains domesticated animals and excludes invasive animals.

The result is a permanent electric fence that improves performance and productivity, is low maintenance and lasts a lifetime. A solid electric fence protects your assets, allows you to manage your animal location and grazing more effectively, and respects the environment.

Effective land, pasture, and animal management starts with a reliable fencing solution. Animals need to respect the boundaries you build on your property, whether they’re animals you’re trying to keep out or keep in.

A great fence begins with the strainer post. You need a strong strainer post that can take the load and hold up a fence animals can’t get through. That’s why Gallagher introduced the Mega Anchor, the strong and reliable strainer post solution for wherever you’re working and whatever the terrain.

Laying the groundwork for excellence with the Mega Anchor

Strong fences need strong foundations. The Mega Anchor is a fast and easy solution for permanent fencing that can be installed by anyone, anywhere.

The Mega Anchor was originally designed for construction. It’s rugged, hot-dip galvanized steel components were intended to be the foundation of buildings. Now, the Mega Anchor is the all-in-one solution for strainer posts on farms.

Mega Anchors come with everything ready to go. All you need is a few common tools and some common sense. And you can be sure a Mega Anchor is built to last. Gallagher offers a 15-year warranty on the Mega Anchor for all steel components.

How a Mega Anchor works

The Mega Anchor requires minimal digging or preparation to install. Three 1200mm piles are driven into the ground at an angle to provide unmatched load-bearing and pull-out resistance.

No need for concrete or heavy machinery like a tractor with a post driver. Installation can be done with handheld tools that fit in the back of a ute, and installing a Mega Anchor strainer post is often a one-person job.

This also makes the Mega Anchor ideal for remote areas where transporting heavy equipment can be too difficult.

The strengths of the Mega Anchor are showcased in this video. A strainer post had to be installed on erosion-prone soil on top of a hill. The three piles drive into the soil at an angle, becoming more secure as the piles take up more space underground than a single strainer post.

The Mega Anchor can be easily adapted for sandy or deep topsoil ground. You just need longer piles to drive into the ground, and the Mega Anchor will have a stronger hold in loose soil.

Once you have your Mega Anchor installed, it’s time to build your fencing system.

Building on your Mega Anchor

An installed Mega Anchor is a versatile end assembly that can be used for:

  • Swinging a variety of gates with gate hinge sets
  • Angle assemblies with added stay post kits
  • Multiple wire permanent electric fences over long strains

Animals will only respond to a strong fence they know they can’t get past. A Mega Anchor is the basis of that fence as it can be fitted out with everything you need, from gates to electric fencing. Once in place, you’ll have a fence line animals will not cross.
