Darren, the fourth generation of a farming- sawmilling family in the Tweed Valley, grew up around farming and agriculture. Darren enjoys helping farmers come up with solutions in his role — and it's one he loves.
After leaving school, Darren worked for J. H. Williams, which was taken over by Primac, then Elders.
For many years he also did contract fencing, often working with Gallagher TMs. When a role came up in March 2008, they encouraged him to take it. "I thought I'd give it a go for 12 months. I enjoy fencing and they seemed a great company to work for.
"I had a bit of a hiccup early on, and there was nothing but support. It just blew me away. I was like family and I'd only just started."
These days Darren and his family are into their beloved campdrafting and teams penning. He also dabbles on weekends in running a beef cattle enterprise.
